Oct 7 – Surgeries Begin

Today is the initial day of surgeries. The first OR became available early afternoon and 6 patients received their surgery this day. There are a variety of stories surrounding each patient’s situation but one that strikes the heart is that of Valencia, a young lady from Columbia. She is a twin that acquired a hip infection as a baby. This infection has plagued her throughout life and caused her left hip to deteriorate. During a scouting trip in June 2022, the team identified Valencia as a potential candidate during mission. Although she has now finished high school and would love to go to university, her morale is low. She seldom leaves home because she is self conscious of her limp and deteriorated hip. The first thing Valencia did when she woke up from surgery was to check whether her legs were the same length.
