Surgery Begins

Today is the day – surgeries begin.

After hours of evaluating over 65 prospective patients yesterday, almost 40 surgical patients were selected to be treated over the course of the 2018 mission. This does not include a few last minute patients the mission has been known to add.

After arriving at Santa Ines Hospital, the True North Missions Society team spilt up into their designated groups and prepped for the big day. No matter the position – whether it be volunteer or processor, the True North team members approached their work with the same passion and dedication.

“Although we may be in a different country and they have a different way of processing, the same care that we provide our patients in Canada, we provide our patients here,” said Nurse Kelly Kovacs when speaking to the her ward nurse teammates. This is Kelly’s 7th year with True North.

Although each patient may have a different diagnosis, one thing remains the same – their gratefulness. Each patient and their families smiled as the True North team members walked through the door. From the ward nurses to the surgical team, to the recovery room to the physio team, every True North staff member was thanked for their work and support.

Tomorrow will hopefully feature more smiles – stay tuned.

Best,

The TNMS Team
