Operating – Day 3

Today was the Mission’s 3rd day in the OR. Our legs are tired but our hearts are strong. The team managed to do 11 patients, including 2 PAOs!  The Sante Ines Hospital graciously gave us three operating rooms to utilize, and we hit the ground running!

Physio was hard at work getting yesterday’s patients mobilized and preparing them for discharge home. The sterilization department ran super smoothly and all the instruments were cleaned and ready for the next case in a timely manner. Well done team!!

We had a young girl and her mother come to the hospital on Saturday looking for help with her chronic hip pain. She had previous surgery as an infant but was still experiencing chronic hip problems. We were able to put her into our OR program today for a PAO and she is now recuperating in the ward thanks to the team’s excellent care. She was met by her mother in her room, who was all smiles to see her beautiful daughter.

The Sante Ines cafeteria has been doing an excellent job at keeping us well nourished at all hours of the day. Shout out to them for organizing all our food preferences and allergies. Big shout out from the Vegans!

Tomorrow we are hoping to do a complicated case that involves flying in instruments from Quito. Stay tuned….and thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all your support ❤️
