Over the course of the early afternoon, the line of those waiting to be seen begins to dwindle. At this point, the large majority of the patients have been selected for surgery and there are only a few more spots to be filled. Its not uncommon to hear that someone has travelled 8 hours just to be seen by our doctors today and get a chance at a potentially life altering hip surgery. For many who came, there were hurdles to overcome in order to sit here today and wait for for life changing news. It’s unfortunate that anyone needs to be turned away, but those who do not qualify for surgery still have the opportunity to sit down with the physiotherapists for a consultation on how they can manage their pain and mobility. In all, an estimated 85 people were triaged today, with 54 being selected as surgery candidates.
